My name is Don Sevcik, and I started Math Celebrity on July 4, 2007. I have worked in the corporate world for many years building Excel and Visual Basic calculators for co-workers that showed the math work behind the calculations. I spent my spare time tutoring students, and decided that it would be nice to have a math tutoring system that showed everything. A high-impact, low-cost, rapid fire solution where students and teachers would not have to install any software, sign up for any trials, or listen to any lectures. You enter a problem, push a button, and every single line of math work appears immediately. Students today are busier than ever. Teachers are working extremely hard. Many families do not have the money to spend on tutors for just a few hours of help. That is why I started this site and work on it every day. 24 hours a day, you can enter a problem, push a button, and get what you need.

2009: Start helping the teachers in any way possible
Around Spring 2009, a teacher was asking about quizzes. During that conversation, I asked him how would he feel about a quiz/homework generator for his students. This is how the Teacher's Corner portion of the website began. We now have over 150 quizzes that a teacher can generate or a student can take and be graded. Over the last year, we have added multiple choice options, font/display options, and handed over more control on how the questions are randomized as well as answer ranges to the teachers. This is an ongoing project and the feedback has been tremendous.

2010: Begin Artificial Intelligence
I woke up one morning early in 2010 and decided to start upgrading the site from a search engine to a decision engine. For certain problems that could be quantified in a short statement, wouldn't it be nice if you could enter a problem, push a button, and get everything you need? It also saved about 5 seconds on the searches. From the reviews we received early in the project, the decision was made to never turn back. We have started adding decision prompters as well. For example, if you enter a positive integer, the decision engine will give you a list of choices.

Why are you not charging?
If Math Celebrity is at conferences, schools, or dinner parties, I guarantee this question is asked. My thought right now is to keep building lessons and features until we have 95% of the curriculum from 2nd grade through College. Right now, I am having so much fun watching the reaction on the faces of students and teachers and parents when they see what this site can do. We save a large amount of money on expenses compared to other companies because it is only myself programming the site and my wife and brother-in-law, Dan McLaughlin, helping promote. Will the website be commercial in the future? The answer to that is undecided. The immediate plan right now is to continue to build a site where you can enter a problem, push a button, and get everything you need.

How are lessons built?
Every day, I scour through math books as well as the internet. I have a report of searches that were ran and I can see if Math Celebrity did not have the lesson or shortcut built. I work with teachers as well to approve the delivery of the math. When I meet with teachers and students, I tell them that if we don't have a lesson, shortcut, or quiz that you need, simply e-mail Math Celebrity and I can build it. I build more lessons and features every day, and with your help, this site gets stronger every day.
