    If you triple a number and then add 10, you get one-half of the original number. What is the number?

    Let the number be n. We have:
    3n + 10 = 0.5n

    Subtract 0.5n from each side
    2.5n + 10 = 0

    Subtract 10 from each side:
    2.5n = -10

    Using our equation calculator, we get:
    n = -4
