    The difference between 2 numbers is 108. 6 times the smaller is equal to 2 more than the larger. What are the numbers?

    Let the smaller number be x. Let the larger number be y. We're given:
    1. y - x = 108
    2. 6x = y + 2
    Rearrange (1) by adding x to each side:
    1. y = x + 108
    Substitute this into (2):
    6x = x + 108 + 2

    Combine like terms
    6x = x +110

    Subtract x from each side:
    5x = 110

    Plugging this equation into our search engine, we get:
    x = 22
