    Let f(x) = 3x - 6 and g(x)= -2x + 5. Which of the following is f(x) - g(x)?

    f(x) - g(x) = 3x - 6 - (-2x + 5)

Distribute the negative sign where double negative equals a plus:
    f(x) - g(x) = 3x - 6 + 2x - 5

    Combine like terms:
    f(x) - g(x) = (3 + 2)x - 6 - 5
    f(x) - g(x) = 5x - 11
