    15 added to a number is 16 times the number

    1. The phrase a number means an arbitrary variable, let's call it x.
    2. 15 added to a number: 15 + x
    3. 16 times the number: 16x
    4. The phrase is means equal to. So we set 15 + x equal to 16x
    15 + x = 16x
