    f - g = 1/4b for b

    Multiply each side of the equation by 4 to remove the 1/4 and isolate b:
    4(f - g) = 4/4b

    4/4 = 1, so we have:
    b = 4(f - g)

    the key to this problem was multiplying by the reciprocal of the constant
