    The cost of purchasing a hockey stick and puck if the stick costs 6 less than twice the cost of the puck.

    Let the hockey stick cost h, and puck cost p.

    Twice the cost of the puck means we multiply p by 2:
    2p

    6 less than this means we subtract 6:
    h = 2p - 6

    The total cost of the hockey stick and puck is:
    p + 2p - 6
    3p - 6
