A submarine at an elevation of -185 meters descends to 3 times that elevation. Then, it elevates 90 meters. What is the submarines new elevation?

3 times the current elevation is:
    3 * -185 = -555

Elevating 90 meters means we have a positive change:
    -555 + 90 = -465
